Years ago, on the advice of one of my theater companions, I saw "Coraline and the magic door", an animated film based on the book by Neil Gaiman, which became part of what I would put in the secret treasure chest of precious things. Coraline is a very particular, poetic and fantastic film, but above all the way it was created is wonderful!
Every character or setting, building, in short, anything you see on the screen, present in the film, was created physically, in miniature, by a team of crafters who did a unique job.
The film is shot in stop motion.
Stop-motion is a particular animation technique that is carried out through photographic shots.
What differentiates it from a normal video is its nature, a stop-motion becomes video only during editing, before then a series of photographic shots still remains.
I won't tell you the story because you absolutely have to see it, I just say that Coraline with her parents moves to the countryside, to a large house and while her parents are too busy with their botanical work (which, however, they only do on the PC without ever touch or see nature), Coraline begins to explore the new environment and the first new friend she meets gives her a doll identical to her and through that doll begins a very special adventure.
